The individuals listed have been cited/arrested/charged in Troup County. However, this is not an admission of guilt. All parties are considered innocent until proved guilty.
• Thursday night about 7:10 p.m., LaGrange Police responded to the Walmart on New Franklin Road in reference to Shoplifting.
Police arrived and met with Loss Prevention employees, who advised they observed a female, later identified as Ashley Warren, concealing several items in her purse as she shopped in the store.
According to employees, once Warren finished shopping, she observed went to self-checkout. She then placed several items into shopping bags without scanning them, while paying for others. Warren never removed or paid for the other items that she concealed in her purse.
Employees then confronted and stopped Warren at the front door when as tried to leave without paying for numerous items.
Warren was then escorted to the Loss Prevention office where she admitted to concealing and not paying for some of the items.
Police were provided a receipt, which indicated the stolen items were valued at $258.24. Among the items that were concealed were several different types of medication, a Christmas tree bag, dish washing detergent, an electric hand mixer, and other miscellaneous items. Warren later admitted to trying to shoplift the items that employees had recovered from her.
As a result, Warren, age 34, was arrested and transported to the Troup County Sheriff’s Office where she was charged with Theft by Shoplifting – Less than $500.
Warren has since been released from the Troup County Jail on $1,000 bond.
• Wednesday night about 9:13 p.m., LaGrange Police responded to the Stay Lodge on Whitesville Road in reference to a domestic disturbance.
Officers arrived and spoke with the complainant, who stated she came to the location to pick her son up and gotten into an altercation with his father, Coy Douglas Guin.
The complainant stated the child’s grandmother had given him $40 for Christmas and when she confronted Guin about the location of the money, he stated that he did not have the money and had not seen it.
She stated they then got into a verbal altercation, so she decided to leave. She stated that upon attempting to leave, Guin followed her out and stood in front of her vehicle. She then put her vehicle in reverse and started to back up. Guin then jumped onto the hood of the car, grabbed the windshield wipers, and broke both wipers.
The victim stated he she had no idea why Guin jumped onto her car because she thought the argument was over.
Police observed a single windshield wiper laying on the victim’s hood that was bent in half. Another broken windshield was found near a parking space where the incident reportedly occurred. Officers later spoke to Guin, who stated that his son’s mother came to pick up their son and she started arguing with him about $40 that was supposedly given to his son for Christmas. Guin stated that he did not know anything about the money.
Guin stated that as she was leaving, he followed her out to the parking lot and he heard her vehicle engine revving up. He then claimed that he thought that she was going to try to run over him, despite the fact that the vehicle never moved towards his direction and he was standing on a sidewalk with a metal pole between him and the car.
Guin claimed he reacted by jumping onto the hood of the car and holding on to the windshield wipers, which accidentally broke.
Due to the statements from both parties and the physical evidence at the scene, police arrested and charged Guin for the incident.
Guin, age 24, was arrested and transported to the Troup County Sheriff’s Office where he was booked into the jail charged with Criminal Trespass – Family Violence Act. As of press time, Guin is still being held at the Troup County Jail without bond.
